Valley Man Arrested For 7th DUI

Phoenix man Michael James Hoover was arrested and is now in jail for what is possibly his 7th drunk driving arrest. Three of those arrests were in the last 6 months alone. Arizona is known for having the toughest drunk driving laws in the country. So how does someone like this manage his way back onto the streets of Arizona?

Because of his history, the defendant Hoover is behind bars with no bond. Hoover has had three Driving Under the Influence arrests since January. Police say that makes a total of 7 DUI arrests for Hoover in the last 4 years. Some of his previous arrests were misdemeanor DUIs that carry a sentence of up to 6 months in jail making it shocking that Hoover was able to accumulate so many DUIs in such a short period of time. However, three of Hoover’s DUI arrests came in the last 6 months, too recent to have been processed through the system.

The most recent case was a felony because Hoover was allegedly driving on a license suspended from his prior DUI arrest. Hoover is currently being held with no bond. The county prosecutor’s office says if he’s convicted on these felony charges, he faces serious prison time. A felony DUI arrest can carry anywhere from 4 months to almost 4 years in prison.
