Drunk Driving Research statistics Underage Binge Drinking and Underage Drinking and Driving
According to a research study published in the “Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs,” underage binge drinking, defined in the study as having at least four drinks in a row, is a common activity at several colleges across the country. The Study focused on eighteen colleges that had, in the past, reported serious problems with their students abusing alcohol. The Study determined that, in 2005, fifty-six percent of students reported underage binge drinking in the past two weeks, and thirty-two percent of students said they binged frequently. In addition, the Study showed that in 2005, thirty-seven percent of students said they were also involved in underage drinking and driving.
Many times, alcohol use among students leads to students drunk driving and causing drunk driving car accidents that at times result in drunk driving fatalities and drunk driving charges. According to Arizona Law, A.R.S. § 4-244, drinking and driving is a class one misdemeanor, and a person arrested for DUI in Arizona will face harsh drunk driving consequences that may include up to two (2) years license suspension, jail time for DUI, steep drunk driving fines, probation, and community service.
