Teen Arrested for DUI in Mesa

On Sunday, February 19th Mesa police arrested a 15 year-old boy for DUI. The teen lost control of a 2008 Dodge pickup truck into a concrete pillar at a gas station at the intersection of Val Vista Drive and Broadway Road in Mesa. According to the report, the boy drove through the gas station to avoid a traffic light. Mesa police observed “signs of impairment” when they investigated the accident and arrested the teen.

The accident caused “extensive damage” to the truck and the pillar. Thankfully the teen did not hit any of the gas pumps directly; however debris from the pillar damaged the pumps.

The teen had a learner’s permit at the time of the accident, but there was no one in the car with him at the time. The report did not disclose what substance or substances the driver consumed prior to driving or what his blood-alcohol content was at the time of the accident.

In Arizona, it’s illegal for anyone under age 21 to be in physical control of a motor vehicle if there is any alcohol in his/her body. Underage DUI is a class 1 misdemeanor in Arizona. Class 1 misdemeanors are punishable with up to 6 months in jail and up to a $2500 fine.
