Task Force Created to Pursue DUI Warrants
The Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Phoenix Police Department, and the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department are currently pursuing over 20,000 DUI warrants across Maricopa County through a program funded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. As part of the program, a command post was recently established at the Arizona State Fairgrounds at Veterans Coliseum. To date, according to Arizona Department of Public Safety Captain Daniel Golden, forty (40) officers have been dispatched and have made more than fifty (50) arrests. Further, Captain Golden estimated that the average squad will make twenty (20) arrests a week going forward. According to Captain Golden, the warrants target individuals who failed to complete the necessary actions when charged with a DUI such as failing to appear before a judge or failing to pay the DUI fines. In addition, although the program began a little over a month ago, its main focus is Memorial Day Weekend. Captain Golden said “It’s important to get as many hazardous drivers as possible off the roadways. We are going to be very proactive and will be running queries in the system to track them down to their houses, work, anywhere.”
