Labor Day DUI Averages Down
Despite adding five thousand (5,000) additional Police Officers to crackdown on DUI’s over the Labor Day weekend this year, there were only a few hundred more DUI arrests in Arizona. The State’s campaign started on August 20th and ended on September 6th. The total number of driver’s arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence were 1,554. Police Officers made more than thirty-six thousand (36,000) stops this year compared to nearly fourteen thousand (14,000) last year. The number of other citations issued by Police Officer’s, were nearly seventeen thousand (17,000) compared to less than six thousand (6,000) last year. That raises a question, were more police officers patrolling the streets for public safety or city revenue?
