Inmates Attempt to Smuggle Drugs into Jail System using Tampons

According to Maricopa County Officials, they halted a plan by prison inmates to smuggle heroin and spice, a synthetic marijuana, into the jail system using tampons.  The Sherriff’s Office said the drugs were being delivered by inmates who were working at a food bank.  On Friday, inmates and a delivery truck were searched after a jail intelligence team discovered the plan and notified the Special Response Team.  During the search, Officials found tampon tubes filled with individually wrapped balloons that contained several grams of spice and black tar heroin.  Officials say two inmates, whose names have not been released, have been charged with conspiracy to possess contraband for being the masterminds of the plan.
