DUI Task Force Patrols Southeast Valley over Memorial Day Weekend

Over Memorial Day weekend, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe Police will work together as part of the Southeast Valley DUI Task Force in pursuing motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. According to Mesa Police Spokesman Sergeant Ed Wessing, “The task force serves as a deterrent and a show of force to all the community that this type of activity is unacceptable.”

Police statistics indicate that the increase in DUI enforcement may be causing a decline in DUI arrests.   For example, in 2008, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe Police made 8,224 arrests for DUI.  However, these same Police Departments reported 8000 DUI arrests in 2009 and 7910 DUI arrests in 2010.
