2009 Arizona DUI Statistics
According to the Century Council, a not-for-profit organization created to fight against drunk driving and underage drinking, 219 people died in alcohol-related car accidents in Arizona in 2009. Of this total, twenty-two (22) were impaired drivers under the legal drinking age: twenty-one (21). Further, sixty-four (64) percent of alcohol-related fatalities involved drivers with a blood-alcohol content (BAC) of .15 or higher. For those alcohol-related car accident fatalities that involved repeat offenders, thirteen (13) percent had a BAC of .08 – .14 and eighty-seven (87) percent had a BAC of .15 or higher. Finally, in 2009, 39,260 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 487 of these arrests were of teenagers under the age of eighteen (18).
